Techtronic Industries Co Ltd (TTI) Turns out TTI owns Milwaukee Tool and many other power tool companies. It also licenses the names RIDGID* and RYOBI for cordless power tools (Emerson owns RIDGID). TTI stands for Techtronic Industries Company Limited (TTI Group). Both Ryobi and Milwaukee are owned by Hong Kong-based manufacturing company Techtronic Industries.
Although they share the same parent company, Ryobi and Milwaukee are not the same thing; in fact, their positioning in the market is very different. Brands such as Ryobi, Dirt Devil, Oreck, Milwaukee Electric and Hoover, for example, are owned by Techtronic Industries, based in Hong Kong. Stanley Black & Decker, based in Connecticut, owns many brands beyond its name, including Lenox, Craftsman, Irwin Tools, DeWalt and CribMaster. Like the RIDGID brand power tools, TTI also manufactures Ryobi tools for the US market as a licensee.
They don't own Ryobi, which is a Japan-based company that offers totally different tools. Apex Tool Group is owned by Bain Capital and was formerly a joint venture between Danaher and Cooper Tools. I just wanted to add that I know it's not exactly a tool company for merchants, but I'm guessing it's someone's tool company: Oreck vacuums are also owned by TTI. The coordination between Ridgid and Ryobi power tools is definitely there, as the tools are developed under the same roof and are sold exclusively at Home Depot.
Dewalt has one of the broadest lines that surpasses Milwaukee, but many of them have just been upgraded by Stanley Black and Decker or are manufactured under contract once they move away from mainstream power tools. However, if you are a professional who needs very reliable and high-quality tools for heavy, everyday use, and you don't mind spending a little extra money, Milwaukee is the best option. I live in the Milwaukee area and would love to support a local brand, BUT I also want to make smart purchases and invest in quality tools that last. This is what I want: a reductive battery adapter that allows the Milwaukee M18 batteries to work on the 18 V tools of all 3 brands and for the Ridgid batteries to work on their 18 V tools or those of Ryobi.
The thing is that a Ryobi cordless tool will not only appear in the boxes of professional users, since you have to have the battery and the charger for a cordless tool.
